**********************************************

FUNMI: good morning, sir.

MR OSAI: morning, Funmi. You don’t look too happy; what’s the matter?

FUNMI:(breaks down in tears????)

MR OSAI: oh dear! What’s the matter? Come on! Stop crying and talk to me. What happened? How is Ebuka?

FUNMI: I’m in trouble??

MR OSAI: what trouble? If you calm down and tell me, I might be able to help. I mean you are my staff i could use the company’s money to solve the problem and then gradually take it back from your wages.
Did you make any mistakes?
Is money missing?
Did you overpay a client?

FUNMI: nooo????? my husband found out I was sleeping with you.

MR OSAI: but that happened when we were both unmarried!
Do you know all the women he slept with before meeting you? Come on! This shouldn’t be an issue!

FUNMI: that’s the problem! He didn’t even let me explain. I don’t know what he was told and who told him.
Since then, home has been hell! He goes out and comes back drunk and totally off his face. Calls me all manner of names. I never thought my past could find its way to my present and mess it up this way!

MR OSAI: but you and I had a secret relationship because we were in the same company.
No one knew about it except of course your friend…. And I take the blame because you kicked against that but I insisted on having sex with you in my office. So how could he have known!
Does your friend have his phone number?

FUNMI: no..well, yes. I recently gave it to her because I wanted her to give him the shoes he bought me from Italy, when I was in Lagos. I don’t think she saved it.
And I don’t want to believe she would do such a thing to me

MR OSAI: I’m not saying she said it, but you women can be really nasty when you feel your friend is happier than you. You women are always competing with each other, which I think is pathetic!
Listen, go to your husband when he is sober and explain things to him.
Come on! Not like we were having casual sex! We were in a relationship and we were going to get married until our genotypes shattered those plans.
I’m sure your husband had sex with at least one of his exes! Why punish you for it!

FUNMI: I am in bits. This is a home where I am already the black sheep! If his family gets to know, they’d kick me out and my mother warned me not to ever come back home if my marriage crashes, because she was never in support of me marrying an Ibo man??

MR OSAI: would you like me to talk man to man with him?

FUNMI: I don’t know what I want. I can’t even function

MR OSAI: alright! Listen, this is not a big deal at all, but I understand your fears. I’ll give you one week off, fully paid. Try to sort things out with him as amicably as possible, if all fails, I’ll send you to America to start a new life. What nonsense!!!??
I hate to see you like this. And I feel very guilty because I am enjoying my own marriage. Please go home and if you need anything, regardless of what time of the day or night it i

MY WIFE: episode 20 MR OSAI: morning, Funmi. How are you? FUNMI: I’m alright. Good morning MR OSAI: how have you been managing? FUNMI: God has been gracious. I have been receiving help from lots of people. MR OSAI: great to hear. Do you need anything? FUNMI: not at the moment. No. MR OSAI: It’s Saturday today, So I’m only here until 10am. Our daughter has got really nasty cataarh; I told my wife to get her ready so I could quickly come to the office and do a few things before I take them to the hospital, so they must be waiting. Erm, I just wanted to find out if you are willing to take on the role of my personal deputy? FUNMI: wow! Why not! MR OSAI: well, I did put up vacancy for two more roles on our website. If you become my deputy, it means your position will be empty and we need one one more person in our IT department. So you are happy to do it? FUNMI: yes! MR OSAI: great! So it comes with a pay rise, and a few other benefits like entitlement to an all expense paid holiday, health insurance which covers you and one other family member and a car. FUNMI: wow! Are there things I’d need to do? MR OSAI: erm, we will train you for a week and that’s all fully paid. Nothing difficult at all. Just to familiarise you with your new role. FUNMI: okay. Thank you. Did you get the email I sent you? MR OSAI: Oh yea! The CV, right? Is that someone you know? FUNMI: yes. It’s actually the lady I told you about who got me a house and all. MR OSAI: oh! The Amarachi of a girl! Alright, ask her when she is available to start… FUNMI: oh! My God! Thank you!! MR OSAI: you’re welcome, Funmi. Anyway, look after the office. I’m leaving now FUNMI: please send my love to your daughter and wife. I hope she feels better soon. MR OSAI: I will. Thanks. Bye (Mr Osai left and after sometime, a call came through to Funmi’s desk from the receptionist) FUNMI: hello, Funmi here. How can I help? RECEPTIONIST: someone is here to see you FUNMI: what’s the name? RECEPTIONIST: Zain. FUNMI: hmmm! Let him in, please. Thanks (Zain knocked on the door and Funmi opened the door for him) ZAIN: surprise! Surprise!! FUNMI: you didn’t tell me you were coming! ZAIN: I know you threw your card on me just to dismiss me. Well, most guys would find the way you dismissed me quite abrupt, but I find it very attractive actually FUNMI: please take a seat. ZAIN: (sits down) thank you. FUNMI: would you like anything? ZAIN: yes. You. FUNMI: Oh please! ZAIN: I meant everything I said to you at the mall. You see, I’m not asking you to date me straight away, just give me a chance to know you. That’s all I’m asking for. FUNMI: I’m married… ZAIN: well, you don’t look it (stares at her finger ring and gave a facial expression that suggests “so why are your fingers empty?)

FUNMI: why are you staring at my fingers like that? ZAIN: well, I like how neat and short they are. I dislike articial nails on ladies..also, I thought married people wear wedding bands in this part of the world. I might be wrong… FUNMI: I.. I.. ZAIN: It’s alright! You don’t have to lie to me. You are not married. Maybe you were married. Whatever the case, I just want to get to know you. I know I don’t look it with the whole beards and all, but I am actually harmless. FUNMI: do you mind if I ask where you are from? ZAIN: I’m from Delta state. FUNMI: hmmm! Interesting. Do you live there? ZAIN: erm, actually, I and my siblings were all born and raised in the United States. This is my second time of coming to Nigeria since I was born. But I’m trying to put up something here that will always draw me back home. You don’t wanna go too far away from your roots FUNMI: so you can’t even speak your language ZAIN: shush! Keep your voice down! You don’t need to let the world know! FUNMI: hahahaha! I need a microphone in this office so I could loud it. ZAIN: thank goodness you have none. Naughty girl! FUNMI: I’m not a girl! Respect my age! ZAIN: sorry, grandma. Can we go out for lunch? FUNMI: I don’t think that will be possible. I’ve got a few things to do here ZAIN: I’ll hang around and come back whenever you want me to. Why are you working on a Saturday, anyway! FUNMI: I don’t wanna be bored at home. ZAIN: happily married people look forward to the weekend… FUNMI: ??? ZAIN: I don’t mean to open any healing wounds. I’m sorry if I did. But when I saw you in that mall, I saw loneliness, I saw betrayals, I saw love and lost. Your beautiful garments couldn’t hide them. They pierced through it. All I wanted to do is offer you some comforting hugs. I saw a girl who’s been betrayed by the ones she holds dearly to her heart FUNMI: (wipes her tears with her hands) ZAIN: (throws his handkerchief on her) use this. Don’t be ashamed to cry as much as you wish. But never go back to what made you cry. This is my grandma’s everyday advice to us. Just thought you might find it helpful. FUNMI: thank you. If you don’t mind I would love to carry on working now, please.

The result of poverty in the early life

They beat her all over the body until she no longer cried no more. What wrong had she done to the Mayor? She thought to herself as she sat in her cell. Her clothes had been ripped off and she was in pain.
"Get up!" ordered the officer.
She quickly got up and wiped her tears.
"Someone is here to see you."
She followed the police officer and was led in a office. The man was sitting on a chair and placed his legs on the table. She looked at him and felt hatred and anger. In all those years she had been friends with his daughter. She respected him and thought at him as her father.
"I didn't know you were so cruel. How could you lie to the police officer that I stole your money?" she asked with a serious look on her face.
He burst out laughing. He stood up from the chair walked towards her. He stood in front of her and smiled.
"I loved you Diana. I wanted you to be mine," he went on. "Just come and be with me. I don't want to hurt you my love. I am not resorting torture yet if it's the last thing I do. You will rot in jail if you don't agree to my proposal."
"You disguisting. To even think you were good. Amy will have to hear about this," she said angrily.
He shook his head.
"Amy! She doesn't want to see you ever again. She hates you. Let me call her."
He took his phone out of his pocket and dialled her daughter's number.
"Dad!" she answered. "I am about to go for a lecture. Did they catch that stupid girl Diana?"
"Yes, my princess."
"How could she seduce my own father and after that steal your money. Don't let her near our house again. She doesn't deserve to be my friend," shouted Amy on the phone.
Diana was about to say something when the Mayor cut the call.
"How could you?"
"She is my daughter. She trust me and believe me. Daddy's little girl," he said. "I told her that you seduced me. My wife told her that you tried to seduce me."
"You cruel! You disguist me."
He walked to her. He slapped her on the cheek.
"Watch your mouth young lady. You don't know who you messing with," he gawked. "Josh!" he called out.
The police officer got inside.
"Here is your money," he said handing him the envelope. "Beat her. Don't give her any food. She is very stubborn."
He walked out of the office. The police officer took her back at her cell. Upon arrival he did what he was told to do by the Mayor. He beat Diana repeatedly. She lay on the floor tears streaming down her face. She couldnt sleep. Her whole body hurts. She was in pain. She wanted to know why God could let something so terrible happen to her. Hasn't she been a good child? She never disrespected anyone. He knew God wouldn't let her get hurt. He loved her and wanted what was best for her.
"He allows trials and suffering to occur in our lives for one purpose only because it's sometimes through the difficulties. The pain that He can take and shape us into the best we can. If you hurting it's not because God has given up on you. He loves you. He is willing to be there everystep of the way if you let him in and believe in him," she remembered the Pastor's words.
She got up and knelt down.
" I know you won't let me endure extreme suffering seemingly on my own. You will not give up on me. I need you Lord," she prayed.
She spent the one hour praying to God. The police officer came to her cell.
"Hey!" he shouted.
She stopped and looked at him. She was ready to face him. She was not afraid of him anymore. She was not going to feel the pain of being beaten by him anymore.
"Go to sleep. You think your God will come and break the cell and save you. Keep on dreaming young lady," he said and went back to his office.
It was around 7pm
*
Early in the morning. She couldn't get up. She slept on the floor with no shoes or blankets. She woke up with a fever and cough. Suddenly a police officer opened the cell. It was not Josh.
"Her temperature is high," said the doctor after checking up on her.
"Doctor. Where is my brother?" she said with a low voice.
"Shhhh it's okay. He is at my house with my wife and kids. How are you feeling?"
"Tired. My body hurts. He beat me up. I am feeling cold,  headache and sore throat," she said laying on the floor.
"Okay. I am getting you out of here," he said carrying her. "Dylan. Make sure you get the name of the police officer who did this. This girl is innocent," he said to the police officer.
"I will sir. I will make sure we arrest him today," said Dylan
The doctor walked out of the station carrying Diana. The driver opened the door at the back seat. He drove the car at the doctor's house. He parked the car at a big house. The doctor took Diana to a spare room. His wife had gone to the hospital with Admire. He laid her on the bed and checked her temperature. It was high. He injected her while she laid on the bed unconcious.
"I will take care of you. You good girl. You may be poor but you don't deserve this," he said holding her hand.
He walked out of the room and needed to talk to his father about the Mayor.

The greatest mistake I ever took(emotional story)

"Diana! You are here child," said Mr Mulema giving her a hug.
He had acted like their uncle and sometimes helped them with food and blankets. Since he had some of his children abroad. He was a rich man.
"How are they? My mum and brothers."
"The doctor hasn't come out yet. Come let's sit down."
"I can't sit down. I am scared Uncle Mulema. I should have been there with them. I don't want anything bad to happen to my mother and brothers. It is all my fault," she said in between sobs.
"Don't blame yourself child. They are going to be alright," said Mr Mulema patting her back.
She didn't want anything bad to happen to her family. If only she had listened to her mother. She sat on the bench thinking of what had happened for the house to get burnt. She had so many questions running through her mind that only her mother could answer. She felt guilty of staying out late. Her heart was pounding really fast. She was feeling nervous. Her body was on high alert. It was a nervous wait.At one stage she could not take much more sitting in the room so she decided to go outside. It was around 10pm.  She was about to get up when the doctor walked in. It was the same doctor who had paid for her mother's hospital bills.
"What happened?" she asked.
The doctor stared at her. Wondered how he was going to tell her the news. He took a deep breath and looked at Mulema. He shook his head.
"Your mother is in a comma. It's a matter of life and death. Your other brother, Admire is okay luckily your mother managed to get him out of the house," he paused.
"Wh wh wh what about Alex?" she stammered.
"Unfortunately Alex didn't make it. We tried all we could but he had inhaled lot of smoke in the room."
She heard the news that no one ever wants to hear. Words so horrible that she couldn't process them.
"No no that can't be. Not my Alex. Nooooo!" she shouted
She cried hystericallly. It was hard for her to accept that Alex was gone. The doctor, Solo and Mr Mulema helped her to calm down. She was comforted by them.
"Be strong child. We are here for you," said Mr Mulema.
She sat on the bench feeling bad. Rehashing what she could have done to make things happen differently. Dealing with a bad situation she was in, was dealing with grief. She wiped the tears before facing the doctor.
"Can I see my Alex?"
"Yes you can," he responded.
She got up and was about to fall when the doctor caught her hand.
"Are you okay Diana?" asked Solo concerned.
"Carry her. I will go and check  on her," said the doctor to Solo.
Solo carried her and followed the doctor.
*
People contributed at the funeral. They bought the coffin for Alex. Admire sat at the corner remembering his brother. He was a strong boy. He didn't cry but deep down he was hurt. Knowing the person who killed his brother and now his mother was in hospital. He was not going to tell Diana. He feared the person will kill her.
"If you tell anyone that I set the fire. I will kill your sister," he remembered the voice before he collapsed when his mother was still stuck inside the house.
*
She was wearing a black dress at his funeral. She was in a disarrayed state of mind. She loved her brother so much and couldn't believe that he was no more. She placed roses into his casket
"Goodbye Alex. I will always love you."
She looked at him for the last time. He looked cute in his black suit. A little boy so funny and made everyone laugh at home. A boy who loved singing at church. He was 4 years old but everyone loved him. He was adorable. A boy who greeted every neighbour early in the morning. She wished he could open his eyes so they can play hide and seek.
"Sisi Diana. Come out ahh I am tired," he always shouted in the house.
Sometimes it could be past Alex's bedtime when he could not fall asleep. They hanged out a bit. The funeral was held at the church. They were about to go out to the graveside when the police barged inside the church with the Mayor.
"That is the girl who almost killed me yesterday. She even stole my money," said the Mayor pointing at Diana.
"What!" exclaimed Diana with a hint of confusion in her voice.
"Arrest her immediately. We don't want such people in out  community," said Mayor.
The police officer took Diana. They twisted her arms forcefully behind the back and put her in handcuffs.
"I didn't do anything. He is lying to you," cried Diana.
"Diana!" called out Admire following the police officer.
Luckily the doctor, had attended the funeral grabbed his hand.
"Let me go! Where are they taking my sister?" shouted Admire.
They put her in the police van and drove with her at the station. The Mayor couldn't help it but smile. The doctor saw him smiling and walked up to him.
"You don't deserve to be called Mayor," he said and headed to his car with Admire. He got inside the car and drove off.
The Mayor looked at the doctor and his face looked familiar to him.
"Where have I seen that boy?" he asked himself.
The Mayor got into his limo and Daniel drove off.
"Daniel!" called out the Mayor.
"Yes, sir!"
"Drive the car to the hotel," he said staring at his wife.
Diana just sat and didn't say anything. The last thing she wanted was to be enemies with Sarah. What she didn't know was that it was already too late. Sarah hated her more than ever. After getting embarassed because of Diana. She was going to make her pay. She just stood as the limo took off. She felt disrespected by his husband. She got into her car and drove off.
*
"Sir! I think Ma hates me," said Diana.
"Don't mind her. Let's just go and talk about the campaign at the hotel. She needs attention," said the mayor.
Did she have any idea what he was up to? She saw him as a father and was very grateful for what he was doing. She sat comfortable in the limo but couldn't stop thinking about Sarah. They first passed by the saloon. She had her hair done.
"We have to do something about your wardrobe," he said smilingly at they got out of the saloon.
"Pardon, sir."
"Let's go shopping!"
People in the saloon stared at them as they walked. Adoring their relationship.
"What a father, girl. He loves his daughter very much. I mean coming with her at the saloon and waiting until she was done," said one of the hair dresser.
"I wish to have a father like him," said the other.
She was happy to have to buy new clothes. She felt comfortable more than ever in her new hairstyle. He couldnt stop himself staring at her. They arrived at the hotel. Daniel opened the car door for Diana and the Mayor. They got into the hotel after she changed her shoes. Her heels tapped rhythmically as she walked behind him. He stopped outside a door, opened it and reached in to flick on the light. It was around 7pm.
"I trust this will be comfortable for you. I will send Daniel at your house to let your mother know that you safe," he said.
"Thank you, sir."
The mayor stared at her and thought ordinarily. If he had taken a woman at a hotel he wouldn't be thinking of any kind of having a drink with her. He would be enjoying holding her, kissing her and thinking only satisfying his sexual needs. Their eyes met and for a moment it was as if everything hung in balance. She gazed at him. Did she know what he was going to do? He turned and broke the contact. He looked up to her and couldn't help himself as he reached up and kissed her lips. She slapped him hard on the cheek.
"What is the meaning of this? You like a father to me," she said angrily.
He ignored her and grabbed her waist. He wanted to kiss her and make love to her. He wanted her and could no longer control his feelings towards her.
"Stop! You hurting me!" she shouted.
He let her go and locked the door.
"If you do anything to me. I will scream," she threatened.
"No one will hear you, young lady. This is my hotel and it hasn't been opened yet. Come here!" he demanded.
"No! I won't let you touch me. To even think that you gave me the job out of kindness. I should have listened to my mother,"she said.
"Get undressed now!"
He walked to her and pushed her against the wall. She screamed out loud but he didn't stop. He had more power than her. He pushed her on the bed. She couldn't, she couldn't let him touch her or rape her. She had to do it. She got up from the bed and kicked his genetials. He was about to fight with her when she hit him with a bottle of champagne. He fell on the floor. Her heart pounding really fast. Her emotional brain had already begun to respond along paths. She immediately took the keys, unlocked the door and got out of the room running. She ran out of the hotel. She didn't stop. It was dark but she didn't care less. She soon stopped and realised she was about to get her house. She couldn't stop the tears from falling. She walked at fast as she could bare footed.
The house was on fire and she ran quickly. There were people outside her house.
"Mum!" she shouted looking at the house which was burning. "Where is my mum? My brothers?" she asked looking like a mad person.
"Where were you Diana? Poor child there was fire and your whole family have been taken to the hospital," said one of the neighbour.
"Are they alright?"she asked with a hint of confusion in her voice.
"Mr Mulema hasn't called yet. He is the one who drove them at the hospital. Let me take you at the hospital," said Solo.
The house had been burnt down. People were standing outside. It was bad.
"Poor child. They have lost everything. Do you think someone did this?" asked Besa
"Maybe they left the candle on. Since there is no electricity. I hope they are going to be okay," said Faith.
Solo drove the car at the hospital. Diana couldn't stop the tears from falling.
"It is all my fault. I could have been there for them," she said thinking out loud.
"They are going to be alright Diana. Such things happen in life," said Solo.
He felt pity for her. They soon arrived at the hospital and found Mr Mulema sitting on the bench.
"How is my mum?" asked Diana tears streaming down her cheeks.

My dream of becoming a wealthy man

He was immaculately dressed in a dark suit and tie, the white of his shirt enhancing his attractive tan. The smile on his lips was warm and welcoming.
"I know we need the money but I don't feel comfortable with you working for the Mayor. I don't trust him," said her mother the previous day.
"Mum! He is a good man. Trust me and we need the money."
"Just be careful around him Diana," said Joyce.
She was discharged at the hospital but was not so happy to hear that her daughter was going to work for the Mayor. When Diana woke up early in the morning. Her mother hoped she had changed her mind. Instead Diana went to take a bath and walked out of the house in a black suit.
"Welcome Miss Diana," he said extending his hand to great her.
Her stomach did a strange flutter as those lips brushed sensuously over the back of her hand. She pulled back her hand. A sexy smile spread across his lips and she dragged in a ragged breath then swallowed hard. What was this old man trying to do? She thought as she made a step back. She cleared her throat.
"I decided to take a taxi since Mr Daniel took long to come," she said nervously.
His gaze was drawn to the way the skirt clung to her body. She was as desirable in the morning light as she had looked in his house. He wanted her more thaan he had ever wanted a woman.
"Sir!" she called out disrupting his thoughts.
"Okay. Ben will show you how it is done," he said softly.
He was 50 years old but felt very young around her. Could it be that he was falling for this young lady? He looked at her lovely face. She was young more beautiful than his wife or daughter. Her lips set in a firm line of discontent and he couldn't help himself but wanting to kiss her. For a moment his gaze locked with hers, the dark depths of his eyes seeming to search hers as if looking into her soul.
"Your phone is ringing," she said softly.
He moved away from her and went outside the office to answer his call.
"Talk to me."
"So your wife went to meet up with a young man at a hotel," said the man on the other line.
"How old?"
"From what I have found out after researching about this guy. He is 25 years old."
"Is she cheating on me with a boy?" he asked angrily.
"I am still yet to investigate what she is up to with him."
"Good! Do so I have some business to take care of," he spoke his eyes on Diana who was in the office going through some papers.
He hanged up the phone call and walked back to the office.
"I see you now working. Let me not disturb you. I am going at a meeting," he said opening his briefcase. "Here is the money for breakfast and lunch," he said handing her the money.
"Sir! But I.."
"Call me Mayor or rather Paul. And take the money. No buts"
"Thank you so much, sir. God will surely bless you," she said.
"There is more to come. Just do your job and you will see how sweet I can be," he said
"I will do that sir."
He walked out of the office. His driver was waiting for him outside. As soon as he saw the Mayor walking towards him. He opened the car door for him. He got inside the car and closed it.
"Where to sir?"
"At the hotel. I need to make a reservation. I am taking someone out on a date," he said looking at Diana's picture that he had stolen from his daughter's photo album.
*
The afternoon was going pretty well for Diana when Sarah burged in the Mayor's office and found Diana on the desktop. She quickly stood up.
"Hello Ma!" she greeted.
She didn't respond and clicked her tongue.
"Where is my husband?" she asked with a serious look on her face.
"At a meeting."
"Okay! You are dismissed. You can pack your things and leave."
She felt threatened by her. She was beautiful, young and obviously a virgin.
"But Ma. I can't leave now because Mayor gave me job to do. I will get fired," she said.
"If Mayor is your boss. So am I. Now leave," she shouted.
She took her satchel and walked out of the office while the other workers looked at her. Whispering
"She is very young. I hope he won't take advantage of her," said one of them
"And beautiful. If only she knew who she dealing with. Did you see Madam Boss the look she gave her. We will just see where the drama ends," said another.
*
Diana was about to get into a taxi when Daniel called out her name. She walked towards him.
"The Mayor wants to see you in her car," he saud.
She followed him and got inside the limo. She sat on the back seat opposite the Mayor. She thought maybe he wanted to talk about his campaign.
"You going home already?" he asked.
"Yes, sir!"
"It's Paul. I brought you something," he said heading him a hand bag.
She was about to open when Sarah, Mayor's wife opened the door.
"What is going on here?" she asked her eyes on Diana.
Diana just looked at her and the Mayor.
Diana's first reaction was to get out of the limo but the Mayor held her hand.
"Where are you going? Stay with me," said the Mayor not caring about his wife.
Sarah clenched his fist. She felt defeated and that Diana had already won.
"You can take a sit," offered Sarah.
She poured a glass of champagne and sat on the leather sofa. She took a sip.
"So what can I do for you?" she asked placing the glass on the glass table.
Sarah watched her beautiful face as she scanned the room. Her eyes finally resting on hers.
"Your house looks different," she said.
She glowered at her and wondered what she was doing at her house. She was her daughter's friend but they were not relatives. Diana dragged in a sharp breath and looked around the room. She was scared of Sarah. It was her first time coming at the house alone and be in the sitting room. Everytime she came with Amy they would go to her room. She gazed at Sarah. Sarah had a serious look on her face that said "Get out of my house!". Diana, in her chest her heart was pounding, and a whole stream of butterflies had taken flight in her stomach. She took a deep breath forcing her racing heart to calm before slowly open her mouth. She had to remember her reason of even approaching this villian lady in the first place. She didn't know what was the matter with her. She had never experienced this before, not able to utter a word. Suddenly the Mayor walked from upstairs into the sitting room.
"If it is not Miss Diana," he said smilingly.
Diana was about to stand up when the mayor stopped her.
"No! Take a sit young lady," he said with a hint of happiness in his voice.
He sat beside his wife. He stared at Diana in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.  Her first reaction was to keep her eyes off him.
"I am looking for a job," she finally spoke.
"What kind of job?" said Sarah.
"Anything even maid," she sounded so desperate.
Sarah looked at her and didn't want her in her house. She could never accept her.
"Oh, I was looking for a secretary or personal assistant to help me with my campaign," he said
Sarah glared at him.
"You can do that?" he asked.
"Yes, sir I can. Is Ma okay with it? Isn't it too much. I have no experience," she spoke softly.
Mayor looked at his wife. She knew that if she disagreed. She will be in big trouble with the Mayor. She quickly responded
"It's okay I have no problem with it," she said faking a smile.
"Thank you, sir. Thank you, Ma," she said excitedly.
His gaze dropped from her eyes and lingered on her lips. She had sweet lips. He wanted to go over to her and kiss them until they hardened. Instead he focused his mind, because if one thing was true it was the fact that he was going to sleep with her. Yes, he was like a father to her but so what. Age was just a number to him. He wanted her the first time he set his eyes on her. He had been waiting for this opportunity to be close to her. She was just like any other girl at the night club, desperate for money. He picked up his drink and took a sip, all the while maintaining eye contact with her.
"So you will come tomorrow at my office. Early in the morning. One of my man will teach you," he said his voice deep.
"Okay. Thank you so much, sir."
"You are welcome D."
Was he flirting with her? Thought Sarah as she sat beside her husband. She feared for the worst since now Diana was going to be her personal assistant. She needed to keep a close eye on her.
"I will send Daniel to come and pick you up tomorrow," he said.
"It's okay sir. I will take a taxi," she disagreed when she noticed how much Sarah was looking at her.
"No he will come."
"Okay. I have to get going now. My mother is still at the hospital."
"What happened to her?" he asked concerned.
"She was sick but she is fine. Goodbye Ma!" she said sitting up.
"Let me ask Daniel to take you at the hospital," he said sitting up.
They got out of the house laughing while Sarah watched them. She felt jealous and needed to get rid of Diana very soon. She didn't trust her husband and knew that he would make her his second wife. There was no doubt about that.
She got into the car and Daniel drove off. He went back inside the house and was about to walk to his study when she called out his name.
"Paul!"
"Sarah!" he responded facing aside.
"She is very young. The way you were looking at her. If you think I will have another woman in my house. I won't say anything.... ," she spoke.
He clenched his hands and drew in a deep breath.
"You will do what?"
He kept his voice controlled as he took his seat opposite her. She raised her brows at him suggestively. Damn, was the woman deliberately trying to provoke him?
He stood
"I didn't think so," he said heading to his study room.
She swallowed hard and looked at him as he walked upstairs. He almost made her lose her nerves. For one tiny second she wanted to throw the glass at him and scream out his name. She had to have breathing space. She needed space and she needed it now. She grabbed her car keys walked out of the room. She got into her and drove off.
The Mayor took his phone and dialled a number.
"Sir!" responded the man on the otherline

The race of life and it's difficulties

The air was very clear and the long morning shadows distinct. The sun shone briliantly. Diana kept pacing up and down the room after her mother was taken to the emergency room. It was around eight in the morning and she couldn't calm her nerves. She feared the worst might happen. She hadn't heard from the doctor about her mother and her little brother's condition.
"Sisi Diana. Don't you know how to sit down? Stop pacing up and down the room like a mad person. You making me feel nervous," said Admire in a rude voice.
Diana sat on the bench not wanting to fight with her brother.
"Thank you!" he said
After hours of sitting at the bench which felt like forever. The doctor walked inside the waiting room holding some papers. Diana quickly got up from the bench.
"How is my mother?" asked Diana nervously
"Sisi Diana!. Let him sit down first," said Admire with a serious look on his face.
The doctor smiled looking at him.
"He is right. Let's sit down first," he said softly.
They both sat down and Admire paid attention to the doctor.
"Your mother unfortunately  fell into a comma.  Her blood pressure is very high. We are going to keep her in the hospital under observation for days," he went on. "Alex is going to be alright. What have you been giving him?"
"Porridge everyday," responded Admire.
"Oh I see. He needs to change what he eats. He needs to eat something with balanced diet or he may suffer from ulcers later."
Where was she going to find the money to buy food? She thought
"Miss!" called out the doctor disrupting her thoughts
"Huh!"
"You can go and see your mother now. I must get back to work. Don't worry about hospital bills. I will take care of it," said the doctor.
Diana was surprised. She had no idea where to get the money. She knelt down on the floor and the doctor helped her to get up.
"A beautiful girl like you must not do that," said the doctor.
"I don't know how to thank you. Thank you. God bless you, sir," said Diana.
"It's okay. I will see you later young man. Here is some money. There is a shop outside. Go buy something to eat."
"Thank you sir," said Admire smilingly.
He immediately ran out of the hospital to buy some food. He was hungry after he went to bed in an empty stomach. The doctot walked with Diana as she headed to the room where her mother was being kept. She opened the door. Thinking that she could control her tears she walked to the bed. When she got close to her and held her hand she started crying. It's in that moment that she really felt like she needed a shoulder to lean on. She wished Amy was there to comfort her and tell her that everything was going to be alright.
She held her hand and started praying.
"Lord! Take me if you have to but please don't take my mother away from me. I need her in my life. You said you son Jesus will not leave us as orphans but would send us the Spirit who will protect us," she wiped her tears and went on. "I believe in you and that you can heal my mother. I believe that you can make her open her eyes again," she paused. "Way maker, miracle worker. Light in the darkness my God that is who you are. You touch every life, meet every need and wipe away all tears.," she stopped.
The doctor was standing at the door watching Diana praying for her mother. He wiped the tear that had escaped his eyes before walking to his office. Diana got up and was about to walk to the door.
"Diana!" said her mother with a low voice opening her eyes
"Mum!" shouted Diana excitedly. "You are awake!" she exclaimed with tears in her eyes.
She immediately stormed out of the room and went to call the doctor. The doctor walked fast to the room while Diana followed behind.
"This is a miracle. Her blood has even dropped," he said after checking her. "You a miracle worker young lady. I have never seen nothing like this before."
Dian smiled at him.
"You should go to church doctor," she said silently.
She later sat with her mother in the room and was happy she was alright. The hospital gave them some food to eat. Alex was doing well and things were now back to normal.
"I need to go somewhere mum. I will be back," she said later that afternoon as they sat outside the hospital.
"No problem. You will find us here since I am being discharged tomorrow," said Joyce.
"Okay. I love you mum. You two behave. I will be back," she said sitting up.
"And you too behave I am watching you. If you going to see your boyfriend tell him that you got a brother by the name Admir. If he ever do anything to hurt you I will kill him. I don't love you or like you but still you my sister," said Admire with a serious look on his face.
He was a no nonsense man. Diana just looked at him.
"Mum! Did you hear what he just said?" asked Diana shocked.
"Off you go," said her mother laughingly.
She got into a taxi and paid with the money doctor had gave her. The taxi driver parked the car outside a big house with a black gate. She got out of the taxi and walked to the gate. She rang the bell.
L"Sisi Diana. We are having porridge again. When are we going to eat rice?. I am tired of eating porridge. Morning porridge, afternoon porridge and everning," shouted Admire loudly and angrily, the second born.
"Admire. Just eat. Stop complaining," said Joyce, Diana's mother.
"No! Mama. I am not going to eat the porridge," he shouted sitting up.
"Admire!" called out Diana. "Come back here!"
He ignored her and went straight to bed. Admire was 14 years old. He was a Grade 7 pupil and was about to write his final exams. He was a very bright student. He did not understand that his mother could not afford to buy them rice. He was very stubborn just like his father, Joyce thought.
"It's all my fault. I am sorry, Diana," said Joyce.
"Ohh mum. Don't be it's just Admire can be so stubborn sometimes. Don't mind him.  I will deal with him in the morning," said Diana sofly.
"Sisi Diana!" called out Alex, the last born. "I want some water to drink."
"You finished your porridge. Good kid. I am going to buy you jiggies tomorrow right," she said pinching him.
"Yes and ice cream. I listen to mama. Admire always shouts at her. Mama if I grown old I will buy a car for you and a big house," said Alex smilingly.
They both laughed.
"What a kid! Already planning to buy a car for your mother. Now let's go to bed," said Diana sitting up. "Mum. You  should go and get some rest," she spoke looking at her.
"No. I just want to wash dishes. You know cockroaches."
"I will wash them mum. It's been a long a day. Go and get some rest."
"Are you sure?"
"Mum. I am 18 years old and you know I can do everything. Now take Alex and go to sleep."
"Thank you my daughter. My legs are already hurting," said Joyce sitting up.
She almost fell when Diana caught her hand.
"Mum! Are you okay?"
She helped her sit down. She poured a cup of water for her and took it all down.
"Thank you!" she said handing her back the cup.
"Are you okay?" asked Diana concerned.
"My chest. I just felt dizzy maybe it's because I have been working too much."
"You should get some rest. I will go and sell the tomatoes at the rank. I don't want anything bed to happen to you," said Diana. "Alex has already slept. Let me carry him to his bed."
She carried Alex and laid him on the bed. She helped her mother to sleep before she started washing dishes. Tears steaming down on her cheeks. She wondered who was going to take care of her mother when she has gone to University. Only a month left for her to go. She finished washing dishes and went to sleep.
She looked at her mother. She could not bear the pain of seeing her suffer because of her. She needed to find a part time job or be a maid. Thus she wanted to visit Amy's mother early in the morning. They had torned blankets. She could not sleep at night as she kept tossing and turning counting sheeps but she didn't seem to get any eye shut. She heard  Alex crying in his sleep. Her mother was about to get up since they both slept on the floor and stopped her.
"Sleep mum. Let me," she whispered getting up.
Her mother went back to sleep while she sat on the bed. She sat watching Alex's face. She shushed and patted and after no more than five minutes he had gone quiet. Looking at Alex she remembered how she used to rock him sleep while singing a song for him. She would wait untill he was in a deep sleep before putting him down. By the time Alex was 1 year old not only could he sleep comfortably out her arms and without feeding through his naps. He would have a quick feed when they went into the room then roll away and explore, play. After a while he would lay down and go to sleep. Diana would always lay next to him and sometimes he would come and cuddle with her. She wiped the tears that had escaped before kissing him on the cheek. She loved him very much and he looked just like her dad.
"Poor thing. I love you, Alex. My little brother," she whispered looking at him.
She went back to sleep but hardly slept that night. Alex was very unsettled overnight waking up most every 2 hours. She was about to go back to sleep again when Alex started crying.
"What is it Alex?" she asked with a hint of panick in her voice.
"My tummy hurts. Mama, my tummy," he cried out loud.
"Mum! He is very hot. We need to go to the hospital," said Diana staring at Alex.
Her mother did not respond.
"Mum!" she shouted shaking her but still did not respond.
She had no one to call. It was 2am in the morning. She got the strenght and decided to wake up Admire. He woke up.
"What is it Sisi Diana?" asked Admire angrily.
"It's mum and Alex. We need to take them to the hospital. Light up the candle. You will carry Alex on your back and I will carry mum," she said with tears in her eyes.
She needed to be strong for Admire's sake. She carried her mother on her back while Admire carried Alex. They got out of the house and walked to the hospital. Diana's heart was pounding really fast. Praying that her mother was going to be alright.

In love with a monster (love story)

The best kind of friendships are fierce lady friendships where you aggressively believe in each other, defend each other and think the other deserves the world. A strong friendship doesn't need only conversation or being together. As long as the relationship lives in heart, true friends never apart.
Diana and Amy had been friends since high school. They attended the same school and both passed with good grades. Most people even thought that these two were twins. Amy's sister, Patricia envied their relationship and that she would give anything just to have one like that in her life. Amy supported Diana in everything. She even paid for her school fees.
"You the best thing that ever happened to me, Amy. A true friend indeed," said Diana as she gave Amy a hug.
They promised to stay friends forever and had developed a kind of sisterly affection for each other.
"I love you Diana and I promise we will see each other very soon. It's just a matter of time," said Amy.
"Make sure to communicate with me. I will be here waiting for you until you come back. I wish we were going together abroad. I will work very hard Amy as I promised you," said Diana.
Amy's father, a Mayor had decided for his daughter that she should go and study abroad. She didn't like the idea just so because they had been friends with Diana for so long. It was not easy to just leave her all alone and not knowing who would help her.
"No tears, Amy," said Diana wiping Amy's tears.
"I never thought it could be so hard to say goodbye to you. You like a sister I ever had. How I wish dad would have agreed that I stay here and attend same University with you. Leaving you here feels like losing you forever, D," she said tears streaming down on her cheeks.
"I will be here and you will never lose me. You my only friend and sister. I think your plane is about to take off," she went on. "Take good care of yourself. I will always love you, Amy," said Diana.
"Mummy and Daddy!" said Amy holding both of her parents's hand. "Take good care of Diana. Help her with tuition fee and everything. You both know that she is like a sister to me."
"I will my princess," said the Mayor. "I will take good care of her."
"Yes, we will. She is also like my daughter. It's time to say goodbye now. I am going to miss you, my princess," said Sarah, Mayor's wife. "Study hard and make mummy proud," she kissed her on the cheek.
"I will mummy," said Amy
The two girls couldn't let go. After spending so many years together it was hard to say goodbye to each other. Amy kept turning and waved her hand to say goodbye to her best friend. Diana on the other side couldn't stop the tears from falling. She was going to miss her friend, her sister.
"Daniel!" called out the Mayor
"Sir!" responded Daniel, the driver.
"Drive the young lady at her house. Make sure she arrives safe."
"I will sir. Miss, this way," said  Daniel leading the way to where they had parked their car.
"Thank you, sir!" said Diana.
She had woken up early in the morning and left the house uncleaned . She didn't want to miss the chance of saying goodbye to her friend. She took a taxi to the airport.
Daniel opened the car door for her. She sat at the back of the car remembering the good times that they shared together with Amy at high school. They were known as the brightest students at high school. She already missed her friend and wiped the tears  that had escaped. She dragged in a deep breath.
The limo pulled up to Diana's gated 3 roomed house.
"Thank you very much, sir," said Diana stepping out of the limo.
"You welcome young lady. Take good care of yourself," said Daniel with a smile on his face.
"I will sir!" she responded.
She walked to her house which had no gate. If it was not for Amy who begged her father to pay for her tuition fee at University. She was not going to attend. She opened the door. Her mother was not around. She had woken up early in the morning to go at the market. There was nothing to eat and her two brothers we still sleeping. She sat down on the floor and the house looked empty. No television, no electricity, no sofa just a gas stove. She took the pot and lightened the gas stove to start cooking porridge for her brothers. She hoped that one day they will have a big house like Amy's, a mansion. She wondered a lot why their father chose to leave them. After few minutes later her mother walked in looking tired and with tears in her eyes.
"Mum! What happened?"
She helped her sit down and she started crying.
"Mum! You scaring me. What is it?" she said patting her back.
"My money is gone, everything. The shade was burnt down today. I lost everything. What are we going to eat today?. When will this suffering end. I am tired of being poor. I hate seeing my children suffer like this. I have failed you all. I am a bad mother," she said in between sobs.
"Mum. Don't say that. It's going to be alright. I will find something to do. I will take care of you mum," she said embracing her.

Crisis in the city of love

The same guy whom I had seen at the hospital was standing right in front of me. I didn’t  know what he wanted from me but believe me when I say, I wasn’t in no mood for a fight.
‘’How may I help you?’’ I asked friendly.
‘’You are the one who saved my fiancée this morning right?’’ he asked as if he didn’t recognize my face.
‘’Yes, it is me. Am I in trouble?’’
‘’No, I just wanted to thank you for what you did. You got hurt while trying to save her,’’ his eyes on my ankle.
‘’Any man would have done that,’’
Flip! I wasn’t supposed to say that, I said inwardly.
‘’Yes, that is true. Anyway man let me get out of your way. I can see you here to buy something.’’
‘’Yes, just make sure you take good care of your fiancée. People who try to commit suicide, they need lot of support from family and friends. You wouldn’t want the same thing to happen to her right?’’ with that said I walked inside Chicken Inn, didn’t need his response.
You know for a minute I thought the dude was about to punch me for saving his ladies’ life. You never know what one thinks. Imagine I even placed my hand on her cheek in his present. What a dude I am right? I was one of a kind. Anyway I went back to my house. It was really boring being alone in that house. I was a bachelor and single. Well that actually meant the same thing right? How it felt like to be single? It felt good, but earlier I used to be depressed for not having a girlfriend even though I was above average by looks. During college days I used to see couples everywhere around me including my room partner, other students in campus, in city outside of college campus, in movies, in media, just everywhere. I used to get annoyed and sad at the same time. I used to wonder whether these couples have sex or they just roam and study with each other. My mind filled with other such curiosities. I used to be busy in exams, assignments, sports. Luck was never on my side. All the girls which I liked were taken away by other guys but there was one lady whom I was deeply in love with. Sarah, I loved her very much but she was not in love with me. Up until now I still love her and hope one day she will love me back.
Some of us spend so much time being single that it’s hard to believe we will ever find love. Some of us are blessed with the ability to attract pretty much everyone we set our sights on. Others, however, are doomed to go through life as an awkward mess feeling single forever, in the hopes that someone finds their awkwardness cute and adorable. Not everything about being single is a drag though. Some people spend so much time making it sound like a torture when really, it can be pretty awesome if you know how to do it right. When you are really single, you really only have one person to worry about keeping happy and that’s you. You pretty much does whatever you want, go wherever you want, and you never have to answer to anyone. You can also have as many hobbies as you want.
Even if being single is great most of the time, it can be rather lonely. Ultimately, pretty much everyone wants to find love in their life and someone they can grow old with. But if you have been single for SO long, it can feel as though you will be single forever. Anyway let’s not talk about the single life anymore. I think I have exhausted so many points trying to let you all know what kind of life I was living. I had missed my parents a lot. I wish they were still alive. Being in this world all alone, it wasn’t funny.
Anyway that night I slept early, I needed to wake up early and go to work.

ELENA
When I heard that my grandmother was not well. It really broke my heart. I just tried committing suicide and forgot about her. She had been there for me all this time and what did I do? I abandoned her and had to only worry about myself. I promised her that I would be by her side. It had been a week now and the good news. My father had just woken up in a comma and my grandmother had just been admitted. Me and Bradley? We were not in speaking terms since that day I left the hospital. People I wasn’t wrong about her. I felt it. I felt it that she is the one who killed my baby. I always felt unwanted by her but she would have let me be. She shouldn’t have killed my unborn child.  If I had known that it was all pretence I wouldn’t have gone to her house.
‘’My princess!’’
‘’Yes, daddy.’’
I had come to pick him up. He had been discharged. When he was told about my mother’s death. He cried you know but I was there to comfort him.
‘’I need you to drive me to the cemetery.’’
‘Okay, daddy.’’
‘’Where is Bradley? I haven’t seen him since I woke up.’’
‘’He is dead!’’ I wanted to say but instead I said, ‘’he is out of the country,’’ I lied.
My dad could tell when I was lying and he just smiled.
‘’Are we going to see grandma?’’ I asked avoiding his questions.
She was in the same hospital with my dad.
‘’Yes, I need to see her before we leave.’’
‘’okay then let me just go to the bathroom. I will be back,’’ I kissed him on the cheek.
My two sisters didn’t even know that dad was being discharged. Imagine they came to see him once and that was it. They never came back. I walked down the passage to the toilet. So when I was about to turn left. I bumped into someone.
‘’I am so sor,’ I was about to apologize when I stopped at mid-sentence.
It was him and my heart started beating at an increasingly rapid race. Why do I even to continue meeting up with him at the same place.

Drama of a brand new Story

The day I got blessed by an old man(story)

I ran to the front and walked closer to the Windows looking at some clothes. I couldn't stay any more close to him. " is he crazy? " I asked myself getting upset. I knew there was nothing going on between us but Jay was starting to get on my nerves.
He kept on eyeing our dance teacher and I started feeling irritated. I was sure I looked good. After we arrived at the lodge I had taken extra time bathing and dressing up.
I recall Ms Jere had called me to tell me that we would have our dinner at Arcades and later on walk around before returning to the lodge.
" you girls just freshen up and let's have some time out. I don't want you to be all groomy tommorow I want you relaxed" she added with her killer smile.
I just couldn't help feel jealousy. I used to like her so much and her beauty was evident. I always thought she was the most beautiful and good looking teacher in the school but now I wasn't liking it at all.
I was only 16 but I felt so much attracted to Jay. I tried my girlish gestures to have him notice me but ended up hurt when he only saw me as a friend.
I noticed how much I had been on him trying to raise some small fights so that I can just keep close but the guy completely ignored me.
My aunty at home even told it was just my teenage hormenes bulging up but I clearly denied her allegation.
" am not crazy aunty", I would tell her.
" I have not felt anything like I feel for Jay and I know he's my first love." I argued.
" well be careful cause if your mother was to know you have started having such thoughts she will skin you alive" my aunty would threaten me.
" I didn't say am going to give myself to him for sex Aunty, I just like him that's it" I stood my defence and she raised her hands in surrender.
" you are a little stubborn thing my friend and I hope you will  be careful. Don't fantasize about a guy that doesn't even look at you. I have been there and it can drive people of your age crazy" she shrugged and kept on cleaning the house.
I wanted to ignore the urge to want Jay close to me but everytime I saw him I just couldn't resist.
Whenever he danced with me I took it so personal and I felt he belonged to me. Call me foolish or whatever I wanted him for myself and him eyeing my teacher wasn't so cool.

" Tracy!, can you call the others I think we should head back to the lodge now. The driver wants to go and rest and we all need to. We have a long day tommorow" Ms Jere told me
" sure Madam"  I responded walking to the other side.
Back at the lodge she stood by the door and talked to us a bit before she turned to go I walked to the door.
" Ms Jere," I started patting my thighs as i stood near her .
" what is it dear?" She asked clamly smiling at me.
" I have something to ask you" I started figiting.
" yep!" She acknowledged looking at her phone.
" are we going to wear a little make up tomorrow?"
she stopped looking at her phone and looked up at me." I see you want to look good huh?" She let a laugh.
" Yeah I think so, you are ball room dancers and I want you all to look spectacular, no wonder I told you I will have to take you out to the saloon in the morning to do your hair, nails and make-up."
"But, be warned you will have to undo everything before you go to class on monday" she quickly added.
"Great!" I shouted rushing back to the girls. We were 4 in total so were the guys.
"Girls we will look great tomorrow and we gonna beat them I shouted throwing myself on the bed as the girls all laughed excited.

" I can bet my Jay will look so handsome in his suit and I can't wait for him to hold me in those perfect hands" I said closing my eyes and  mimicking the dance extending my hands like I was dancing with him.
" he's just your dancing partner and not your boyfriend Tracy" my friend reminded me and I stood up to her.
" well , never say never right?" I blushed proudly.

The following morning I woke up early and as the girls started dressing up I first decided to take a walk out the lodge.
It was still early and we had awaken early because of the excitement. We still had hours before Ms Jere would take us to the saloon. The competition was starting at 18 hours that evening so we still had time.
Walking outside, I saw Jay seated in the garden chair leaning back and facing the sky like he was in deep thoughts
" hey early Bird!" I called out as I walked towards him.
He turned sharply looking my direction.
" Tracy" he said with a sigh like he was disappointed seeing me.
" yeah you expecting to see someone else?" I mocked him.
" No, am just surprised you are up. It's still early you should be with your friends inside."
Jay told me still in his same posture.
" well I couldn't sleep any more and needed to have some fresh air out here. Am just wondering why you are out here all alone " I paced around like a small girl seeking for attention.
" am mostly alone. That's me " he smiled and I kept my eyes at his face.
" no offence, but I need to be alone now" he murmered
" none taken Dear" I said feeling hurt by his not paying attention to me.
I went back inside to join the others fighting the urge to defile his request and stay outside with him.

JAY............

I couldnt  sleep. I kept on figiting in my bed that night and before 06 am I was up.
I took a quick bath and went to sit outside. I couldnt stay in anymore. I felt so nervous and the images of Ms Jere were not fading from my mind.
" what is wrong with me?" I asked myself as I leaned back  in the chair.
" am not supposed to be thinking about a woman who was older than me even when I knew it was only by 2 years, she still was older and to make matters more complicated, my teacher."
I had never had any formal girlfriend as in some kind of relationship so I wouldnt  say I was in love cause I surely didn't know what love was.
I was lost in thoughts when Tracy called me out.
For a moment my mind played me and I heard Ms Jere's voice, but when I turned to the direct ion of the voice I almost frowned seeing Tracy smiling as she got closer.
She somehow noticed my disappointment seeing her there but I didn't bother to act any better. instead I asked her to leave excusing myself for wanting some lone time.
I had hoped Ms Jere would come out at some point probably in her pyjamas but my dream didn't come true as I realised it was time for the barber shop after staying out for some time.

We were seated in the conference centre at 17: 30 after we were registered. The girls looked so good in their cocktail dresses and their hair done. My attention went to my partner Tracy who looked exceptionally stunning. Her pink silk dress falling on her body to her feet and a long slit in the front. An appropriate dress for the first dance which was called Paso Doble..
She smiled at me and I flashed back a smile at her but I instantly turned away my attention when Ms Jere emerged walking in her red heels towards us.
She wore a short velvet black dress with a silver neck chain that outlined her open chest above the cleavage. Her silver purse glittered on her right hand matching with the neck chain and the wrist watch on the other hand.
I couldn't hold it anymore, like an idiot I walked to her and welcomed her.
" wow!  You look exceptionally beautiful this evening Ms." I recommended her bowing my head towards her and she flashed me her captivating smile.
" Thank you Mr Zimba" she bow her head a bit, teasing me back.

That evening we were called to the dance floor and we all did our best dancing gracefully pleasing the judges. We now had to wait until the following night when we were to do the last two dances which included salsa.
We were taken back to the lodge as the group was filled with excitment. Even when we knew we were to be awarded as couples we all remained optimistic one or two couples from our group was going to be picked.

Everyone left to their rooms but I walked out after removing my Jacket and remained with my shirt with  loosened buttons.
I had to see her one more time and before I could talk myself out of it, I walked to her room knocking softly at her door without hesitation.
" hey, what are you doing here?" Ms Jere asked looking outside. I wasn't sure if she wanted to see if I was with someone or she was afraid of someone seeing me knocking at her door late at night.
" I, I, I came to see you for something can I come In?" I asked
" Yeah sure" she sighed opening the door to allow me in.
She had removed her shoes but was still in her dress, now I could see her a shoulder shorter than me.
" I came to ask what you discussed with my father since you didn't give me an answer yesterday, I started not knowing how to explain my going to see her.
"Mnmmm that's strange cause I don't recall saying I would tell you that" she answered standing in front of me as I held my hands nervously.
" yeah I know, but I thought you could tell me "
She let a laugh. "No I won't,  forget it"
She was still laughing and I lost it, I went straight at her holding her by her shoulders and pulled her closer to me.
Without warning,  I bent down and landed my lips on her crimson red lips.....

The dangerous times of an ocean

I saw how he was nervous looking at me. I couldn't make any thing from his action  thinking maybe something happened.
When he told me he wanted to talk about his father I knew he wasn't saying the truth.
I was laughing at his statement when he unexpectedly came closer holding my shoulders.
I was about to ask him what was happening, when I felt his wet lips on mine, kissing me as he held on to my shoulders.
For a moment, I was lost of action. I stayed put as he went on kissing my lips, his hands gently sliding to the back.
Coming back to my senses I pushed him back." Jay!" I screamed " stop!"
" I cant" , he whispered withdrawing and looking straight into my eyes.
" I can't stop thinking about you, I have tried to ignore the feelings I have for you and I swear if I didn't do anything about it I was going to go crazy " he said his eyes tearly.
I knew trying to scold or shout at him would make him feel worst of himself. He looked vulnerable.
" Jay, come on sit with me " I calmly told him holding his hand.
I indicated for him to sit down and he kept looking at me. His pure passion so vivid I felt my stomac melt.
" am sorry" he whispered now realising what he had done.
I smiled slightly. " are you?" I asked him and he turned to look at my face.
" no,  actually am not, I have never really kissed someone like that before and I can't deny I felt so good. I know I should have not but I couldn't help it. The thing is, deep down my heart am happy am here with you. I don't know what you are thinking about me but I think am falling in love with you."
His last words got to me. I tried to open Mouth to say something but no words came out. I hated myself at that moment cause my body was beginning to betray me. If it was someone else I could not have allowed them even closer to me,  worst still kiss my lips . But oh God this guy was really giving me a hard time.

" you are just confused Jay, you look at me as the person that understands you and with what has happened with your father and staff you feel comfortable around me. You are not in love with me but it's just a moment.  it will soon pass and you will surely agree with me."  I tried to explain swallowing some of my words as i struggled to speak.
" I get it, am just a stupid boy with a fantasy, I can't even tell my feelings apart right? " he asked looking hurt.
" no" I tried to speak but he stood up quickly.

" yes that's it. You were clear enough. But you are so wrong," he paused.
" I don't want to even call you madam because that makes me feel awkward" he went on.
" you can't look at me in any way different am just a dull child with lost ambitions. "

" stop that Jay you know that's not true. You are getting upset and that is not a good sign. You know I care about you but we can't be more than teacher and pupil. Am older than you for crying out loud. What do you want me to tell you? "
" am not going to be the first person to fall in love with an older woman. Besides it's not all that big a difference. " he shrugged.
" you are crazy. Please you have to think over this and understand this is impossible. What are people going to say? "
I saw him look away evidently hurt. He held my hands and looked down my eyes.

" I will prove you wrong Angela, I will come back to you one day and you will then know that am not just a small boy and that it's not my hormones that are making me confused. I love you and one day you will understand..." He whispered and bent down to kiss my forehead before walking out.
My strength was gone. I sighed as I sat back on  the bed my mind wild with thoughts. " oh God help me, what is going on? " I asked myself holding my face as I pushed back the tears that threatened to spill over .
The look that I saw in his eyes sent shivers in my body. He looked so calm and serious about his last sentence I feared the worst.
" what will happen now and how am I going to get through this? I frowned putting down my head.

If It was was someone else, a man order than me and not my student I would have been jumping with excitment. I could  have known that I found the love of my life. But , No, that wasn't the case. The reality was so complicated it made me want to cry.
Deep in my heart I wished Jay won't stop dancing on account of what just happened. He was doing so well I didn't want him going back to his sad old self.
My night was long as my mind kept on fighting different thoughts.

Jay.....

Early the following morning I woke up still feeling tired. I really couldnt sleep. I just kept on touching my lips and leaking the taste of her lips on them. Every time I closed my eyes I could see images of her beautiful face.
" she's wrong" I told myself.
" I not confused and I damn well know what I want. I am not just a boy with hormones but I feel like a man in love." I thought to myself.
from her reaction I knew she felt something for me and that for me, was good enough.

Instead of being discouraged I felt the urge to even do better and make sure I won her over. I was going to have her one way or another. I sat outside the lodge in the same spot as before and planned it all out. I was going to complete my secondary school and would go back for her.
Thoughts of her being taken by another man came to my mind but I was quick to push them away. " I will make it in life and she will accept me" I comforted myself.

Evening came and the dancing went on well. I saw her walk to the bus before we went to the competition and she looked calm. No one could tell something happened between us as she called me and asked me to carry her file as she did before. I tried to look at her but she was clearly avoiding my eyes and I smiled in my heart. " If she cannot look straight in your eyes it's because she's got feelings for you and is trying to hide the truth from you" I recalled my friend' s words.

After the awards were given of which Tracy and I got the first position and another couple from our group 4th position. We were awarded sums of money for the school and what really made me proud was that the guest of honour presented a special award. She was a white woman from Paris.
" now for our special award this evening we have selected 2 of our dancers and are rewarding them with a scholarship to go and study dancing in Paris. These two will be provided with transport , accommodation and all the necessary expenditure paid for during the period of their stay there."
" oh how lucky they are"  , I spoke aloud. I was still talking when Tracy patted my hand.
" what?" I asked looking at her.
" it's you Jay!" She shouted excited.
" what! " I whispered not getting her point.

" Can we have Jared Zimba, from Luangwa secondary come to the front please!" I heard a man's voice from the loud speakers. Then it downed, I was the guy who won the scholarship.
Still shocked i stood up and looked around as everyone kept searching through the crowd to see who I was.  I looked up at the TV hanging in the wall and saw myself on the screen. I felt like everything had has stopped moving.

" come on Jay! Go get it! "  Came Ms Jere's sweet voice bringing me back from my shock.
She held my hand and led me to the front and I tagged along like a child.
I received the award after once again greeting the guest of honour who congratulated me. Turning to the cheering noise as people cheared on top of their voices. My friends came to the stage running and screaming!.

I felt great. The happiness in my heart was beyond what I  had anticipated . It had always been my dream to find my way to the outside world to learn more about dancing and now my dream was coming true earlier than I had ever dreamt.
That night we didn't go straight to the lodge. Ms Jere offered us another night out and we had lots of funny.
I kept stealing glances at her but Tracy made it so difficult for me to have a close moment with her, but i was still happy being around her and everyone with me.

I was the talk of our school. Even my friends who laughed at my dancing were now admiring me. I was going to Paris the year after completing school and everyone envied me.

I had gone home and had a confrontation with my father who told me he didn't have time to watch the competition because like he always told me, he wasn't interested. My mother had however watched it and aunty Nelly told me she was so excited even though she didn't tell me to my face.
" you will have to go to the university after you complete school. For me that's settled. Your grades have improved am glad but that will not change my mind about this dancing thing. You won the competition and are going to study dancing? Then what? ?" My father glared at me.
" No way am going to sit here and watch you the son of colonel Zimba, become a clown to entertain people. There's no future in dancing my son you have to understand that. Tell Me how are you going to even earn your income? Or are you planning on going to college after the dance school?"
I wanted to leave his sight at that particular moment but I decided to take it easy. Recalling  how Ms Jere had practically forced me to promise I wasn't going to have another confrontation with my father.
" don't go there and pick a quarrel with him. Let him speak his mind he's your father. Just know what you want and let it go" she had advised and I agreed to do as she asked.
That time after we got to school she went back to being my dance teacher and I didn't bring up the topic of my feelings again. Her eyes told me a million words and I needed not to push her. She wasn't going to tell me she loved me as long as I was her student and her,  my teacher.

Even when I was dying to get close to her I talked myself out of it and kept my distance.
My days became better as I had the motivation to study harder. One was to prove my self worthy and make it through grade 12 with results that would make my family consider me as a part of them.
The second motive was to prove myself as a man to the woman I had deeply fallen in love with. I just had to man up and ensure I became what she derseved.
Tracy and I had become close and the only reason I allowed it that far,  was to cover up my love for Ms Jere. She had accused me of having an affair with her claiming that someone told her I was seen coming from Ms Jere's room the night at the lodge. I couldn't let her go on announcing  that news.
so I ensured I painted a picture that she was my girlfriend even though we were not really in any kind of relationship of intimacy. .with time the news faded and I was glad. I feared for my dear Mistress if people were to start talking about us.

That day my father was shouting I didn't respond. I let him say all he had and slowly walked away when he  was done. But before I did I calmly told him,
" am sorry you feel that way father, but I will not let anyone else define my life now. I am 20 and am sure I can make my own decisions," I  responded calmly looking at mom and dad who sat across the table.
My mother seemed more supportive even though it was evident she didn't want to go against her husband.

Months later.....

I was to write my final exams in a week' s time and I was determined to study harder. John who always stood by me helped me through the most difficult subjects and i was glad my mind was now acquainted with some contents.

Even though my father was behaving harsh with me. He still paid up my tuition fees whenever I was home so I was confident I was going to pass even if it meant getting credits in all the subjects, for me that was good enough.
" why lie to myself I would get 6 points man" I had told John one day as we did our studying.
" you can do it Jay, we all can let's just work hard" he encouraged me but I didn't want to set my standards higher than I could achieve.
" am okey with credits man, believe me I don't intend to do anything else apart from dancing. So why kill myself. 6 points is for you John and my own is making it through grade 12 as long as I pass." I exclaimed and John shook his head.
" you my friend are something else. But I know there's no point in trying to tell you otherwise. I have come to understand you and even when you are having some hard time getting on a good page with your old man, am sure he will one day appreciate you. You are a dreamer and with this kind of determination you will surely get what you want" He went on talking.
" mnmmm you surely have grown my man John I guess being 18 is really giving you some maturity" I teased him as I patted his back.
We both laughed before we started our studying.
" can I talk to you for a minute?" Tracy came over and I almost turned her down. The push on my shoe from John made me to stand up and follow her outside.
" what is it Tracy?" I asked not wanting to waste my studying time.
" Walk me to the other class I have something to ask you" she insisted.
I followed her as she walked close to me. She had been chosen head girl that year and so she had her own office. Instead of going to the class she had mentioned, she turned towards her small office and I sighed hating her hesitation to tell me what she called me for.
" Jay , we are completing school in a month's time  and I want to ask the way forward since we have not really talked about us" she spoke up after we got to her office and she sat down whilst I remained standing leaning to the wall.

I almost burst out laughing, but I quickly stoped myself before the laugh could escape my mouth. For me it was funny cause as far as I knew we had nothing going on. The only thing I knew was the fact that we were friends and nothing more.
" are you trying to laugh at me Jay?" She scoffed
" oh no, no" I raised my hand to my face.
" oh God, Tracy, you are so beautiful and a damn hot girl.  Sure you are the envy of most guys in this school."
" But?" She asked accusingly. Like she knew what I would say next wouldn't be what she expected.
" how do I put this?"  I asked loudly.
" listen,  I don't want to sound rude to you and ruin our friendship but I don't think we needed to talk about anything concerning us" I said pointing my hand at her and back at myself.
We cannot possibly have any plan if we never started anything.
" So you are saying you don't love me?" She said almost in a whisper.
" I love you Tracy but only as a friend am sorry if I gave you a different impression. I was even getting to think you are going out with Oswald before he went."

"That was to get you jealousy" she cut in.
" oh okay" I sighed slowly hitting my head on the wall as I picked my next words.
" well am sorry whatever the case I wasn't even jealousy because for me you have always been my good friend and I didn't think you expected  something more." I told her honestly.
" is it because of Ms Jere? " she asked.
"here we go again" I snapped moving from the wall.
" am not doing this with you again Tracy. That woman has not done anything to you and for some reason you are always jealousy of her. Am leaving now if you don't mind I got to get to my books some of us are not naturally intelligent and we need to put in our best to pass" I stepped forward to go.

She quickly got in front of me and smiled.
" am sorry I brought her up I  can't just help feel she's the reason you won't look at me in the way I want you to , I love you Jay and am tired of waiting for you to see me and ask me to be with you already. We will soon go out there and I want you as my boyfriend" she added holding my chest.
" am sorry I can't. I don't feel the same. You have to get over those feelings cause we are not going to have anything between us" I told her calmly and walked out.
Her insistence got to my nerves when she ran after me and when she caught up, she blocked my way and tried to have me kiss her.

At that moment I saw Angela (Ms Jere)  passing along the corridors but I was sure she saw me even when she kept her eyes on her phone as she went forward.
" let me go!" I snapped feeling the urge to ran after Angela and explain the awkwardness Tracy was putting me in.
Stepping aside without a word, Tracy gave me way and I passed her without turning my eyes towards her angry gaze, I was sure was on me that moment.

The  following day, I went to check on Ms Jere but was disappointed when I found she had left. Some teacher told me she had taken leave and would not be back until after we were done with the exams.
I tried her line on the phone I had sneaked in but it was off. " how can she go without saying goodbye to me?" I asked the question several times without giving myself an appropriate answer.  I decided to put my thoughts of her aside as we went to the exams promising myself I would follow it up when I was done.

The bad habit of an innocent girl

I waited after knocking on the gate twice making sure my knock wasn't so loud but audible . I couldn't have whoever was inside to have a bad impression of me.
I held my hands nervously waiting for the person who was opening the gate to come out. A gentle looking man walked out looking at me.
"Good afternoon," I greeted him ignoring the thoughts that rushed through my head.
"What if this gentle man was her lover or even Fiance?  " I thought.
I decided to be brave. I was going to see her whatever was the case.
The man responded and told me to wait when I told him I was looking for Angela. I couldnt use Ms Jere knowing that would sell me out as a student of hers. I was a man now and I held my head high.
Taking one look at my blue jeans a bit ripped on the front pocket and a short sleeved black shirt, matching with a pair of black casual shoes and I recalled how much they had cost me and smiled, they were worthy it cause I knew they looked so good on my feet i felt my pride rise.
Lifting my arm to smell if i didn't forget to put on roll on and perfume. Satisfied I smelled good,  I sighed as I heard the foot steps from inside. It was obvious she was the one coming cause the sound of the slippers Patting as she walked gave her away.
I was almost starting to imagine her smooth legs and medium sized feet when she stood right in front of me frozen. It was like she had seen a ghost.
Her lips patted as she gazed at me and for a moment I kept my eyes on set on them contemplating how they would taste on mine if i got them just to slid on them in a flash.

She had no makeup on, she looked even more beautiful. Obviously not expecting anyone important, her hair was a bit out of older too, like she just unbraided it as I could see the curls I used to see when my mother was done undoing her hair, Only hers was longer and fall to her shoulders. She had the small part in front dyed with a strip of Gold or Brown I wasn't sure.
My eyes went down her body taking in her jeggings and a loose T-shirt. I was right, she had slippers on her feet, I had to swallow hard. The sight of her well manicured nails was so appealing I felt I could in an instant rub them gently.
All this I visualized in a flash of some seconds, then quickly looked up her face smiling widely.

" hey!" I finally greeted her and she opened her eyes wide to look at me like my voice just confirmed it was me standing before her.

" hey! Am um um ," she stammered completely lost of words.
" what are you doing here? She finally uttered her words.
" well,  I came to see you, I looked for you for months and now here I am," i raised my hands and dropped them on my thigh making a small sound as they patted on my jeans.
" but I don't understand, how did you find me?  I mean who gave...."
" I found a way that's what matters right?"  I asked her, cutting her short. "where there is a will, there is a way you know the saying" I giggled looking at her as she held her hand to the gate.
" are you going to allow me in or what?" I asked her making sure my manly voice came out.
" oh Yeah, sure please come in Jay. Am sorry I was just caught off  guard" she frowned holding the gate to allow me in.
I waited for her to lock back the gate and followed her as she walked towards the house.
I looked around the back where they had a small garden and the rest of the yard had neat green glass. I saw the man who opened the gate for me seated outside the servants quarter relieving me of the negative thoughts I had earlier.
"Come in," she invited me into the house and I followed her passing  through the kitchen before entering the living room with a wide mirrow on the side. Taking a quick look at myself before going to sit where she had offered me a seat.
" I like your house. It's so calm and peaceful " I smiled at her as she sat on the opposite couch facing Me.
" Thank you,  but it's not mine, its for my elder brother and his wife both of them have gone out for the weekend with their kids" she responded with a soft laugh.
" I see"  I smiled back. " it's beautiful anyway," I i shrugged and looked up and around. Our house was much bigger with more defined furniture and planty of some room too but I honestly loved the simplicity of her brother's house.
" so what brings you here Jay, and how are you? I hope there's no problem  home" she started bring me back to the moment.
" oh yeah everyone is okey and like I promised you I never pick fights with my father, he's more calm now that I passed my grade 12."

"I heard and am proud of you" she smiled.
" Yeah thanks, but am not okey. I have not been okey since you left the school" I told her looking direct at her.
" oh no, what happened? Is anything the matter?" She asked,  the sincerity of her concern clearly displayed in her eyes.
I shook my head and chose my next words,
" am not okey Angela," I said almost in a whisper.
She swallowed hard I saw her gullet move up and down at my courage to call her by her first name.
" I have not been okey because I missed you a lot and was sad you never said good bye to me. You know I would have loved to know your whereabouts. I have spent the last 3 months searching for you and trying your line but I never went through. Tell me why you decided to purnish me like this" I went on not looking away from her face.
She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.

"Jay stop talking like that you know my view on this" she responded uncomfortably.
" I can't because you told me I was confused before, are you sure after almost a year and now am 21 am still having some hormone break down? When are you going to understand that I love you and I want you for myself?"  Moving to where she sat I held her hand.
Tell me you don't feel any thing for me. Look into my eyes Angela and tell me you don't have any feelings for me and I swear to God I will never bother you again"
She looked down avoiding my eyes and before she could say a word we heard the gate opening and the sound of a car outside.

I looked up the window and saw a man and woman seated in the front driving in.
" that should be my brother," she told me and I moved back to my previous seat and sank back as we saw them enter the house.
" helo!" The brother extended his hand towards me and I stood up shaking it gently but firmly.
"Hello! How are you sir?" I greeted him and turned to greet his wife and the two girls who I supposed were their kids.
" I saw a vehicle outside and was wondering who's visiting us" he let a laugh and Angela stood up.
" He's Jared, brother , he came to see me" she indicated looking at me and I nodded my head in agreement. Glad she didn't tell him I was her former student.
The man  talked with us for a bit and I easied up realising how cool he was.
" let me leave you two to catch up am going to the other room" he announced and left us.
" feel at home Jared, and it was nice meeting you" he added as he reached the door.

" the pleasure is mine sir, and thank you for the warm welcome but I have to leave now"  I told him looking at Angela who had talked less the entire time.
" okey then safe travel back to your home" he smiled and I stood up to go.
" will you see me out?" I asked Angela.
" Yeah of course I will" she chuckled a little. Standing up and walking me out to the car.

" get in," I ordered opening the car door for her the moment we were outside.
" what? No I can't I have to...."
" please ," i whispered, my eyes pleading.
She got in and sat down as I went round the car to join her inside.
" I still want to talk to you. You have not answered my question"
She looked at me and sighed, but before she said a word I started the car without warning.

" where are you taking me looking like this?" She asked me looking straight at my face.
I smiled, " you will see, and there is nothing wrong with the way you look. I actually like it. You look good."
I saw her shake her head but said nothing .
We both remained quite as I drove to the road down Chainda heading to twin palms and then stopped, after taking a small turn besides the main road and parked  where there was a clearing.
" Jay, I seriously don't know what you are doing but I don't like where this is going. What's the meaning of this? " she asked,  as usual in a calm voice. I wondered if she had ever yeld at anyone. She was way too calm and I loved the peace that surrounded her.
" I asked you a question and I need an answer. Listen, am going away on Monday and I am glad I found you today. I needed to see you and to answer your question of what am doing. It's simple, I want to know how you feel about me. Look at me and tell me you don't feel anything and like I told you earlier, I will leave you alone and will not bother you again. Look into my eyes and tell me the truth please" I pleaded holding her hands as I turned to look at her.
She kept her eyes on the dash board and I couldn't see that woman who was my teacher, all I could see was a woman who I loved so much but with the struggle to look at me.
I held her chin and turned her face towards me .
" am waiting, " i whispered.
She looked straight into my eyes and I took in the softness in them. They looked clouded with some gentle passion which I could cleary interprate.
" I can't do this Jay, please you have to let me be, we are......"
She couldn't get to finish her sentence and I held her mouth with my finger. Patting her lips gently.
" come with me, " I whispered still touching her lips.
" what do you mean," she murmered behind my finger.
I walked to her side and opened the door holding her hand to allow her out.
I placed my phone to the radio in the car and turned the volume as the song I knew she loved cause I always heard it playing softly every time I went to her class  back in school.
I increased the volume as I led her a couple of steps from the vehicle leaving the door open.
I bow my head slightly and asked her, " will you dance with me?"
She looked around and back at me.
" here?" She asked surprised.
" Yeah. A perfect place for a perfect dance" I chuckled and held her close as the gentle music played on.
She was a bit stiff at the beginning, but as I drew her closer I felt her relax and she slowly placed her head on my chest dancing slowly her hands now touching my shoulders.
I stepped back and threw her forward, turning her around and pulled her back into my embrace and I saw her lips curve into a smile.
I held her closer dancing slowly with her my heart at peace and my mind so calm I felt home.
Without talking, allowing the sound of the music take over our thoughts, we danced quietly. I didn't want to let her go, she belonged to me older than me or not, my heart had chosen.
She sighed and slid her hands on my chest stepping back and looked up at me.
" Jay," she begun the sound of her voice making my insides move....
" talk to me Angela, Am all ears"
